A house and studio building recently completed by Bernheimer Architecture for a photographer and his family, this domicile is a series of spaces sequenced by cropped views of the surrounding environment. A pairing of stacked boxes, the main social spaces of the house are on the ground floor in an open plan layout while bedrooms are compartmentalized on the second floor. The house, which runs primarily on solar and geothermal energy, is clad in Red Cedar, fiber cement panels, and cor-ten steel. (more…)
The Shipping Container House is designed by Studio H:T in Nederland, Colorado, USA with the need for excessive space and challenges occupants to be efficient. Two shipping containers saddlebag a taller common space that connects local rock outcroppings to the expansive mountain ridge views. The containers house sleeping and work functions while the center space provides entry, dining, living and a loft above. The loft deck invites easy camping as the platform bed rolls between interior and exterior. The project is planned to be off-the-grid using solar orientation, passive cooling, green roofs, pellet stove heating and photovoltaic to create electricity. (more…)
