Sonoma Vineyard Residence by Aidlin Darling

Sonoma Vineyard Residence by Aidlin Darling:
The house is sited at the base of Sonoma Mountain, affording expansive views across the vineyards and valley to the east. This project has three basic criteria: private residence, expanded art preserve, and vineyard operation. A careful manipulation of building, landscape, and topography facilitate a poetic coexistence of programs and site, as well as serving to understate the size of the main residence. The architecture quietly reciprocates the complexities of site and program, facilitating a variety of experiences and daily routines. The process was approached with a deep reverence for the act of making, and a consonant respect for the land. Grounded in an exploration of cartography, the resulting structure facilitates one’s understanding of the site and mapping of place – physically, temporally and metaphorically. (more…)

Country House by DVA Arhitekta in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The approach of this project was to develop a residential complex using natural resource and respecting local conditions. Possanco House by ARX – Contemporary Agriculture House

House in Possanco by ARX

The owners wanted a small vacation house that allowed a casual and relaxed enjoyment of their weekend when escaping the urban everyday stress. The house set as a combination of contemporary architecture in natural agriculture site of Possanco. The project carries popular architectural styles with asymmetric roofs, with one of the two garrets longer, almost disproportionate, reinforcing the compact aspect of volumes very much committed to the land where they are built. These long roofs make the houses cosy during the extremely hot summers and yet sober in the winter. The presence of these houses on the Alentejo plains, allied to the whiteness of their lime painting bringing out an almost abstract figure, compose portraits of a singular and surprising beauty.
