Heatherland Pool House by Satellite Architects

Heatherland Pool House by Satellite Architects in Woodhouse Lane, Dorset, United Kingdom:
Heatherlands is a substantial addition to an existing house, built in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Dorset Devon border. It responds carefully to the folding of the landscape and roof pitches of the existing house. The folds create splits which highlight views, both concealing and opening to them. A new living room forms a transition point between the old and the new, collecting reflected views and light. Situated to the West of the existing house, the structure takes the stance of a traditional outbuilding, acting as a paddock boundary whilst protecting the gardens. The addition defines a new approach to the building, entrance court and outdoor terrace to the South. Adopting a number of sustainable strategies the building includes passive ventilation, sustainable materials and highly insulated construction. The existing building is wrapped in shingle, which will weather together with the new larch rainscreens, covering the addition. (more…)

InBetween House by Koji Tsutsui

Koji Tsutsui & Associates designed the InBetween House in Nagano, Japan.
A cluster of boxes united by irregular, interstitial space, InBetween House mimics the Japanese urban condition on an architectural scale. While the rectangular volumes are like small buildings, the amorphous areas in between are akin to the narrow passageways and odd gaps that crop up almost organically in Japanese cities. The project inspired by the soaring Karamatsu pine trees and the alpine scenery. (more…)

Citriodora House by Seeley Architects

‘Citriodora’ is a coastal holiday retreat set amongst a stand of beautiful Lemon scented gums in Anglesea, Victoria. The house was inspired by the affects of the coastal winds, the form of the roof gently rolls, mimicking the shape of the wind pruned coastal vegetation. There is both simplicity and complexity in this building with large negative spaces offering views to the sky, battened screens proving visual privacy to the neighbors and two massive concrete walls forming a prehistoric spine through the middle. A thermal heat soak for the interior that mediates the diurnal temperature variations within the house. (more…)
