Alp by Akihisa Hirata – Folded Surface House Structure

Surface Balance Alp by Akihisa Hirata
This is a housing project in Tokyo in which we wanted to re-think of architecture not as the act of producing a safe area, but as a folded surface generated by ground motion.
Here, the pressure balance between the interior and exterior makes the turning of walls and ceilings, creating a large volume with subtle divisions.
One can get to every house from exterior corridors, generated by a dent in the volume. You can see the “pressure” between the inside and outside each of the precincts, for example, the direct form of the roofs, jutting diagonals created by the outside stairs or distortion of space by folding walls.
