The house designed as family retreat to engage and preserve the natural qualities of the site. An effort was made to leave the delicate site in its natural condition, no trees were cut and little earth was moved in placing the building.

In response to the traditional Northwest cabins, the design characterized by transparency and crisp contemporary detailing within a traditional gable roof shell. The exposed timber structure and a material palette of Western Red Cedar siding, mixed grain fir tongue & groove boards, soapstone, and concrete complement the rugged forest and mountain setting.
The building concept consists of 3 tiered elements: the entry (lowest); the great room and living areas (mid-section); and the sleeping areas and reading room in the tower that serves as a lookout. Each portion opens to the outdoors in different orientations.
Location : Olympic Peninsula, Washington (Dabob Bay, just off of Washington’s Hood Canal)
Architects : Bjarko|Serra Architects
